Supporting Pupils with Medical Needs

At St Mark’s CE Primary School, we are committed to supporting every child’s health and wellbeing. If your child has a medical condition or needs medication during the school day, please contact the school office so we can make the right arrangements.

Medication in School

  • Prescription medication will only be given with written consent and must be clearly labelled with your child’s name.

  • Medicines should be handed to the school office by an adult, children should not carry medication in their bags.

  • We do not give non-prescription medication unless it is part of a care plan approved by the Headteacher.

Care Plans

For children with long-term or serious medical conditions (e.g. asthma, diabetes, severe allergies), we will work with you to create an Individual Healthcare Plan. This ensures staff are informed and trained to provide the right support.

Illness and Absence

  • Please keep your child at home if they are unwell, especially with contagious illnesses such as vomiting, diarrhoea, or a high temperature.

  • Children must stay at home for 48 hours after the last episode of vomiting or diarrhoea.

  • If your child becomes ill at school, we will contact you using your emergency contact details—please keep these updated.

First Aid

All staff have basic first aid training, and designated first aiders are available on site. Minor injuries will be treated at school, and parents will be informed of any significant incidents.
