How can we show kindness to people and places?

Welcome to the Summer Term in EYFS!

This term, our big question is: “How can we show kindness to people and places?”

Summer Term Learning Overview – Reception

Through a rich blend of indoor and outdoor experiences, children will be encouraged to explore the world around them, develop their independence and build a strong sense of care and responsibility for others and the environment.

A key feature of our curriculum this term is our focus on outdoor learning. Children will spend regular time exploring our school grounds and natural spaces, taking part in activities such as bug hunting, observing plants and discovering the tiny creatures that share our environment. These hands-on experiences help children to develop curiosity, ask questions and learn how to treat living things with respect and kindness. By exploring the natural world first-hand, children begin to understand that even small actions can make a big difference to the places we live in.

Throughout the term, our aim is to create a nurturing and inspiring environment where children feel empowered to explore, create and care. By placing kindness at the heart of everything we do, we support children in becoming thoughtful, curious learners who are excited about the world and their place within it!

For further information on the learning that your child will experience within each area of the curriculum this term, please read the parent overview attached at the bottom of the page.

As the weather starts to warm up, please ensure you send your child into school with sun cream already applied, a sun hat and plenty of water.

Please remember to provide an opportunity for your child to read their phonics reading book at least 4 times a week within a calm and supportive environment.  These books are carefully matched to the phonics they have been learning in class.  Alongside this, we encourage families to continue sharing a wide range of stories, poems, and non-fiction texts. This not only develops vocabulary and confidence but, most importantly, nurtures a lifelong love of reading.
